During my recent trip to LA, amidst the hustle and bustle of a conference, I found a culinary haven at Samosa House. This place is a gem that serves up some of the most comforting Indian food I've encountered on this side of the globe. Perhaps it was the pangs of hunger or just the sheer quality of their offerings, but my experience there was nothing short of delightful. From the moment my coworker and I stepped in, drawn by the need for a satisfying yet affordable meal, we were met with warmth and smiles that felt welcoming in the vastness of Los Angeles. Our culinary adventure began with a selection that promised a rich tapestry of flavors – the dosa, sambar, two chutneys, and chaat were our picks, aiming to quench our craving for authentic Indian cuisine. The dosa was a revelation. Crisp on the outside, yet tender within, it was a perfect canvas for the lush, spicy sambar and the duo of chutneys that accompanied it. One chutney, a bright coconut concoction, offered a creamy, sweet contrast, while the other, a tangy tomato-based delight, added a kick that invigorated the palate. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, masterfully balanced to highlight the dosa's simplicity and the complexity of its accompaniments. The chaat, a street food favorite, was equally impressive. A riot of textures and tastes, it was an explosion of tangy, spicy, and sweet notes that danced together in perfect harmony. Every forkful was a surprise, revealing layers of potatoes, chickpeas, crispy dough, yogurt, and tamarind sauce, all sprinkled with vibrant spices that awakened the senses. While the vada pav didn't quite hit the mark, falling short of the memories of street side Mumbai treats, it was still a decent attempt compared to other iterations I've tried in the States. This slight misstep was easily forgiven, overshadowed by the overall excellence of the meal. Exploring different locations of Samosa House over three days, I found a comforting consistency in their food that spoke volumes of their commitment to quality and authenticity. Samosa House, with its generous portions, impeccable flavors, and budget-friendly prices, left me more than satisfied – it made me a "happy baby," content with the discovery of a place that felt like home. The experience was a reminder of the power of good food to connect us to places and memories, making Samosa House a must-visit for anyone seeking the heart and soul of Indian cuisine in Southern California.
Delicious Indian vegetarian food. Daal, smoked cauliflower, jackfruit, and veggie chicken are my faves. This fast casual restaurant is good for dining in or to go. Excellent value for the combo plates! Small parking lot.
Best to-go vegetarian food I’ve had in LA so far! Totally worth the price, plus the quality of the curries is amazing! The garlic naans and chapatis are fresh out the tandoor, so even if it took a while, it was worth the wait.
Such amazing food!!! Smoked cauliflower and jackfruit curry. Vegan mango lassi. All 10/10
Very good food and service. Abu was very attentive and knew what we needed before we did throughout dinner. One of the top Indian spots in town.
"Dosa it taste good?" "I will be going here dal the time." "Two Thumbs Up (please)." "Masala my friends love eating here." "I wish there was one paneer me." Enough puns and bad wordplay, this place is amazing. Great prices, perfect spices, delicious food, oh so good. Open relatively late (10pm) and always fresh. While the Pani Puri wasn't my favorite I've had, the Aloo Gobi and Chana Masala hit the spot, and their samosas might be the crispiest and best I've ever had. Park in the back, on the street, or sneak across the street to the huge parking lot there, and get over to Samosa House today!
This one and the Santa Monica location have the best two Indian dishes in the world: chicken & jackfruit. Come get it!
