I loved Baar Baar! The vibe is great and it really feels like a hidden gem once you walk through the doors. The service was wonderful and attentive, although we did visit on a Sunday when it isn't super busy. Most dishes were unique and beautiful. The drinks were well balanced and fun. The only two dishes that I maybe wouldn't order again - the butter chicken and the jalapeno cheese naan. They were less interesting/flavorful to me. Highly recommend it overall.
I can't say enough good things about Baar Baar. It's an upscale Indian restaurant in the heart of DTLA --and it's an absolute gem! Every dish is crafted with care, blending traditional flavors with a modern twist. But what truly stole the show for me were the desserts. Their gulab jamun cheesecake is divine--silky, indulgent, and perfectly balanced with a creme brule top and a saffron ice cream, it's the kind of dessert you'll be dreaming about long after your visit. The creativity doesn't stop there--the drinks menu is a masterpiece in itself! Each cocktail is a bold and inventive celebration of flavors, with unexpected Indian flavors and pairings that work together beautifully. The dessert chef here is an artist, delivering not just sweet treats but a whole experience of flavor, texture, and presentation. From the ambiance to the service to the unforgettable food and drinks, this restaurant is a standout. If you're looking for a place to treat yourself, celebrate a special occasion, or just enjoy the best cheesecake of your life, this is it!
We were a group of 5 that came here to celebrate someone's birthday and everyone liked all the food. The service is good and the atmosphere is nice. All in all, a great restaurant. We are all vegetarians (1 vegan) and there were several options for us. The presentation of the food is also beautiful. And for dessert the gulab jamun cake is lovely - so good that we ate a piece there and came back to get another piece for take out.
This is my fourth visit to Baar Baar (which translates to “again and again” in Hindi) since they opened, and it has quickly become my favorite Indian restaurant in Los Angeles. Baar Baar delivers consistently on all fronts—fantastic food, a warm and inviting ambiance, stylish decor, and attentive service. The chef skillfully reinvents the foundation of traditional Indian cuisine, presenting it in modern and delightful ways that keep you coming back for more. Adding to the experience is a creative cocktail menu, with drinks inspired by classic Bollywood movies—a playful nod to Indian pop culture. Here are the standout dishes and drinks I find myself ordering “baar baar” (again and again): • Munna Bhai: A clever twist on the classic Penicillin cocktail, this version replaces honey syrup with mango syrup, offering a tropical depth of flavor that pairs beautifully with the smoky notes of the drink. • Homemade Crisps: A medley of Indian-style crisps served with flavorful accompaniments. These are perfect for snacking as you wait for your main course. • Dahi Puri: A sophisticated reinterpretation of this beloved street food. Instead of the typical chickpea crisp, the chef fills a delicate chickpea ball with tamarind, mango, yogurt mousse, and a raspberry-dusted Indian spice. The flavors burst in your mouth, but be sure to eat it whole—trying to nibble will leave you with yogurt-covered hands! • Avocado Bhel: A modern take on bhel puri, this dish features black puffed rice for a unique crunch. While it doesn’t resemble traditional street food in flavor, it’s a fun and inventive alternative worth trying. • Chicken Malai Tikka: As its name suggests (“malai” means cream), this dish offers tender, melt-in-your-mouth chicken with a creamy, mild flavor profile. Perfect for those who prefer dishes without much spice. • Lamb Hyderabad Keema: Minced lamb seasoned to perfection and served with a soft, pillowy bun that takes the dish to another level. A must-try! • Jackfruit Dum Biryani: A personal favorite, this biryani is made with raw jackfruit, which mimics the texture of chicken and absorbs the spices beautifully. A wonderful option for vegetarians and adventurous eaters alike. • Chicken Chettinad and Malvani Shrimp: Both dishes showcase unique regional flavors of India, packed with bold and complex spices. Highly recommended for those eager to explore India’s culinary diversity. Desserts at Baar Baar are equally impressive. The chef deconstructs traditional Indian sweets and transforms them into elegant, modern creations. My favorite is the Ras Malai, a delicate dish made with soft cheese and infused with a subtle rose flavor—it’s a perfect way to end the meal. The décor at Baar Baar is a blend of mid-century modern and Art Deco, with an eye-catching al fresco mural that appears to pay homage to Indian movie stars of the 1970s. This design choice adds a nostalgic yet contemporary touch to the dining experience. Whenever someone asks me for an Indian restaurant recommendation in Los Angeles, Baar Baar is the first name that comes to mind. It’s a place where tradition meets innovation, and each visit feels like a culinary adventure.
Lot of Indian restaurants claim to be ‘New Indian’ but execute their ideas in very poor way. However ‘Baar Baar’ stands out. Flavors and tastes are still rooted deep in rich Indian food heritage while presentation is elevated to fine dining experience. We tried their ‘Bollywood inspired cocktails’; they were really delicious. We tried dishes all over from North to South of India and they all had very distinct and delightful flavors. 100% recommended for people who want to try something different in Indian food but still rooted to Indian flavors.
We came here for dinner after a conference at the LA Convention Center, as a party of three. The reservation was made pretty last minute, but since it was a weekday, we had no problem getting a table. We decided to go with the prix fixe menu. Note that everyone at the table has to choose either the prix fixe or the à la carte menu—you can't mix and match, which I initially found a bit inconvenient since I wasn’t very hungry and had planned on just a couple of small appetizers. However, in the end, I was glad we opted for the prix fixe menu. We shared a variety of vegetarian and meat dishes, and the portions were perfect for sharing. The menu offers a lot of vegan and vegetarian options, so guests with dietary restrictions will definitely find plenty of choices. The presentation, textures, and flavors were outstanding across the board. The highlight of the evening was the Gulab Jamun Cheesecake with mascarpone, caramel sauce, and saffron pistachio ice cream—it was absolutely out of this world! I’d come back for that dessert alone. The ambiance was perfect, with comfortable seating, and it was a huge plus that the restaurant was within walking distance of our hotel and the Convention Center. Highly recommend!
The food was amazing (coming from a Pakistani)!! Totally recommend. Fair prices for really high quality food. The dahi puri in particular was really really good
