Mississippi may very well be the last place you would expect to find an Indian restaurant, but luck was mine a couple of years ago when I stumbled upon Taste of India in Clinton, which is about 15 minutes west of the state’s capital, Jackson. I frequently spend the night in Clinton as it is roughly the halfway point between my Amarillo and Orlando anchor points. And a man’s gotta eat, right? It’s just that I figured I was in a food desert, at least when it comes to interesting ethnic cuisine. That said, Taste of India has never let me down. I always leave sated and feeling like I have experienced a little bit of culture, especially one that is far away from Mississippi. As per usual on my most recent visit, I ordered the Aloo Gobi, a vegan curry dish with potatoes and cauliflower. I order a single Rote for my starch, also a vegan offering. Of course, they have plenty of options for my carnivorous friends, so no one leaves hungry. A side of Jasmine rice rounded out my meal. As is typical of both Indian and Thai restaurants, customers are queried how much heat they wish to endure. I’ll just say that I am on a journey, and I am still good with 3 out of 5, which puts it squarely in Medium territory, enough to get the sinuses activated, and sometimes even a little perspiration and watery eyes, but not so hot as to render me helpless. In other words, if you can tolerate a little heat, “3” is a safe bet. The serving size is always plentiful, and like I usually do, I packed up my leftovers in a takeaway box and ate them for breakfast the next morning at my hotel. Weird? Not at all. Good Indian food ages well overnight, kind of like last night’s pizza. By all means, please seek out Taste of India. If you are like me and judge an ethnic place’s quality in part by the ethnicity of the other patrons, please note that I am nearly always the only white guy in the place. That tells me it is good, but I am telling you as well. Eat here. You won’t be disappointed.

Nice Indian food. While driving on the highway if you get to taste such good food, your drive will be memorable. Will keep the place in mind always because of good food. Ambience can be improved but good food covers it up. Restaurant also runs India Bazaar next to it for buying Indian Groceries stuff. Good place to be for good food. Lady (Owner) was very nice and she attended properly. She is sweet and knows how to treat customers nicely. I believe she is handing all the work on front end and she us doing great job running this business.

I ran here on my lunch break thinking it was a buffet. The front door was locked but I was able to go in through the grocery store next door. I waited a bit before another human being entered the room. It seemed one lady was running the whole show. This let customers having to wait a bit. On the lunch special, you can choose 2 entrees from a list. I chose Tandoori Chicken and Butter Chicken. It came with a salad, yogurt dressing, basmati rice, a dessert ball, and a huge pile of Naan. The Tandoori Chicken was excellent. The flavor was amazing. I enjoyed the Butter Chicken but it wasn't a standout dish to me. The naan was great but I couldn't eat it all. Would I go back? Absolutely! The food was great and the price was very reasonable for the amount of food on that huge plate.

I am from Pakistan. Travel all over united state. In pakistan we love Halwa-Puri. In indian Resturant they call it Chole Baturay. Out of three hundred plus Indian Resturant I eat choley Baturay I can surly say one thing specially about in this resturant is the best choley Baturay served. The size the quality & shape of Batura never seen before. On top of that the Bhindi Masala. The best Bhindi masla ever. I am not sure about other stuff. The two thing I tried, so can give honest opinion. I wish resturant owner all the best. Thanks for Served Good Food. 👍 😊

Everytime I’m craving my moms Indian food I always come here. Being a student it’s hard to travel back home just for food so having this Indian restaurant close by is super helpful especially cause the food is delicious. I always order off the menu to go and can customize the spice level which is a big plus for me. The portions last me at least three servings so I’d say feeding two people under or around $50 is reasonable for the quantity you get. I usually get an appetizer, one entree, and naan for the price range. Having rice included with curry entree purchase is a great bonus. Highly recommend this place as it’s better than the majority of the Indian restaurants in the Jackson area.

We eat at Taste of India whenever we are in town. My son introduced me to it. The chicken curry is awesome. He likes chicken tikka masala. Very clean. Great service. Good experience. We will return next time we are in town.

Very delicious Indian food stopped here on our way back to California. The food and service did not disappoint. the mango lassi was on point along with the butter chicken and saag paneer the garlic naan was very delicious. They also have a store next door with Inidan candy which is my favorite kind of candy and is so hard to find where I live so I was very excited about that and to bring some home with me.
