We recently dined at Saapaaduu, and it was a fantastic experience from the start to finish. The ambiance and decor reminded me of my home town. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Food was to die for, amazing flavors and authentic taste. The Dosas were perfectly crispy and the sides were very delicious. My 9 yr old loved the S'mores Dosa, and he calls it the best Dosa place ever. My personal favorite was Mutton Kola and Cauli Malli Fry. Highly recommend this place in bay area.
The food, ambiance, and service were fantastic! They also adjust spice levels to suit your taste. Must-try dishes include: 1. Cone Dosa 2. Chatti Choru (Veg & Non-Veg options) 3. Cauliflower Fry 4. Mutton Sukka 5. Tawa Sukka Biryani 6. Seeraga Samba Mushroom Rice
This place caught our eye recently because of their "No MSG, Food color and seed oil" tagline. Honestly, everything tasted great here. We tried a variety of dishes. Dosa, parotta, kurma, biryani, chicken fry, gobi fry. Everything was great. The rasmalai crinkle cake was the only disappointment. The puff pastry felt too fatty and the one rasmalai they put in there felt insufficient.
Hands down, best restaurant in the Bay Area. We got mini idly, vegetarian biryanis with paneer, couple paneer gravies, and some rumali roti/regular roti. Everything was delicious and tastefully prepared. The quality of food was very good, service was top notch and the overall experience was great!! Look no further - here is the best restaurant in the bay!!! A+++ Update: Went back again and it’s 100/10!
Dec 2024: Same review from earlier stands. The new item is Jigarthanda on the menu and Mushroom Jeeraga Samba Rice Biriyani. Both are excellent items to try. **** **Update Aug 2024: Tried their Kavuni Arisi Sakkarai pongal for dessert (Black Rice Pudding), Rose Paneer Soda and Paneer Tacos. Yum!!** Note: Paneer in soda is an essence made from natural minerals and not to be confused with Paneer (Cottage cheese). ******Original Review Below****** A relatively calm wintry day with clouds hanging over prompted a culinary quest and resulted in a visit to Saapaaduu for lunch. Location: Saapaaduu is nestled in the foothills by the southern most part of the Evergreen hills in San Jose. The restaurant can be conveniently accessed right off the 101 freeway. Parking: There is ample parking around the restaurant in the front. The restaurant is very much visible to your left as soon as you enter the complex and has open parking. Ambience: It is very hard to miss the careful attention to details of the restaurant owners to decorate the interiors with a cheerful, contemporary and yet elegant vibe. The gold designed decors, place setting and theme reflect the traditional South Indian style of decorating interiors. Clean interiors and very clean restrooms as well. Wait time and Ordering process: You check in at the front and if available are seated immediately which was the case with our party as well. Once you're seated at your table, You can scan the QR code and start ordering immediately. Food is prepared fresh in this restaurant from scratch and hence a 10 to 15 minute wait is reasonable time. This is unlike most Indian restaurants that I have been to that serve factory style with everything pre-done and ready to serve. There is no premium for the fresh food that they make, any wait is totally worth it. In our case it was just 10-15 minute wait for food to reachout table. Service: Service staff are very friendly and accommodating. The folks working include the owners who check in regularly with patrons to ensure satisfaction. Food: Our group ordered Chatti Choru and Kothu Parotta. The Chatti Choru is a very traditional South Indian dish bringing together a mix of items including a combination of rice, thogaial, Kootu, masala Vadai etc. The Kothu Parotta was tasty and traditional as well served with Salna. Quality of food is amazing. Highly reythat you try the Saapaaduu specials. You will not be disappointed. Come Hungry, Leave Happy!! Enough said. Now go order conveniently on Door dash or visit them soon! Let the adventure begin! :-)
Such authentic flavours!! I tried the Chef’s special Briyani and fried Cauliflower and Egg Dosa. The people and staff were amazing. Icing on the cake - So much thought and love given to packaging of the food. Look at the art!! It’s a must try if u are near San Jose!
The Chicken 65 is the best I’ve had in the Bay Area. The dosa was great and the sambar that came with it was a great consistency and matched my expectations for sambar. The food is authentically South Indian. I would recommend this restaurant for those eager to try South Indian food.
