Being from PNW, Thali at Surmai was one of the best thalis that we had lately. We tried Vegeterian thali and Chicken thali. The rice bhakri was really soft, all curries in the thali were perfect. My wife being from Malvan part of India just loved the chicken thali. We also tried their falooda and that was amazing as well! Definetly looking forward to revisit.
We had a great experience at Surmai today. We had the paplet thaali and special thaali. Each and every item in the thaali was excellent. We especially loved the prawn rava fry. We went on a Sunday afternoon and got seated immediately. Food arrived within 15 mins. By the time we were leaving the restaurant was full. Trely was great - thanks for the quick service! If you love seafood, you should definitely visit this restaurant.
Finally an authentic Maharashtrian, Konkani, Seafood restaurant!! I ended up going to Surmai 2 weeks in a row owing to their excellent, authentic taste. The Surmai fry does not get more authentic. And so was their Surmai curry. We also got Pomphret Fry (named Paplet Fry on the menu - which is the authentic name used in Western Maharashtra). Of course, their Solkhadhi pleases the soul no end :-) Trely - our host served us really well and recommended some really good dishes. Thanks Trely! I expected the seafood to be great and it was. The unexpected surprise was the Tambda and Pandhra Rassa which was out of this world!! In our 2nd trip I also tried quintessentially Maharashtrian Bangda fry which was delicious beyond imagination. Surmai is a very honest, authentic restaurant true to their roots and careful about their taste. I can see myself visiting this place many times in the near future!
Honestly I didn’t know what to expect but we got some recommendations from the waiter and they didn’t disappoint. The pomfret was seasoned and fried to perfection and shrimp appetizer with the green sauce was amazing. I’ll definitely return.
Food was tasty, flavourful and my fav from the night was schezwan rice felt like very original to what we get back in India. Otherwise my first time trying Konkani food. The fish was nice and crisp. Mutton was delicious, maybe a little more portion would be great. Tambda Rassa was too good, spicy and hot.
Go to place for Indian seafood. Me and my husband we love this place. Ordered - Paplet rava fry, surmai thali, prawns thali Must try - Surmai thali, prawns thali, paplet fry, solkadhi
We visited this restaurant based on glowing recommendations from our Maharashtrian friends, and it truly lived up to the hype! Dining as a group of four, we ordered the Surmai Thali and Special Thali. The rava Surmai fry, rava fried prawns, and Goan mutton masala were exceptional - our collective favorites. We ended the meal with a bowl of Aamras that was the perfect sweet ending. The service was attentive, portion sizes were generous, and the flavors were authentic and delicious. The simple, cozy ambiance added to the overall experience. Highly recommend this spot for a hearty and enjoyable meal!
