As someone who doesn’t eat Indian food often, I wasn’t sure what to expect at Kumari, but it turned out to be a lovely experience. The restaurant has a quaint charm, and we enjoyed sitting by the beautiful window seating above the entrance, perfect for people-watching while we ate. I had the Butter Chicken at a 3 spice level, and she had the Chicken Tikka Masala at a 4 spice level. While both dishes could have used a bit more spice, the flavors were still amazing. We also ordered Garlic Naan, which was absolutely perfect and complemented the meal beautifully. The portion sizes were generous, leaving us with enough leftovers for another day. Overall, it was a great dining experience, and I’d definitely eat here again!
Not all Indian food is the same. It might have the same name as something at your favorite place and taste completely different at another. At Kumari (a Goddess of Nepal) everything is a bit different and the outcome is delicious. Perhaps it's that Kumari is a Nepal restaurant representing similar but very different flavors than their neighbors to the southwest. The staff is very attentive and friendly. I observed one of the staff going above and beyond by re-wiping plates stacked at the buffet. Their beer recommendation was even spot on as well as, introducing me to a new favorite import. The buffet was standard for "Indian" restaurants with a few options that I have never seen before. For example a drink labeled Lemon Water was more like tea with a complex mixture of flavors. I really like this place and will return soon.
Great food… the taste of soup just transported us to Himalayan hill-station. After a long time the food gave us warm feeling like home. Will surely go back for more good food.
Friends brought us to Kumari last night for the 1st time for an early dinner before the theater. We dined in the back room. It was lovely. The food selection was terrific, service outstanding and our meal was quite good. Portions were large so we even had leftovers, which was an added bonus. Looking forward to returning soon!!!
Hopped off the train and headed straight to this spot for their lunch buffet. Very friendly service, sat us immediately and grabbed us some water. The curry fish was tasty, the tikka was a bit sweet but tasted good. The star of the show was this “Chicken of the sea Mo Mo”. So much flavor and it was something I’ve never had before so I truly enjoyed it. Nepali tea was also served with this buffet. We were both very happy and full when we left. Highly recommended.
If you're looking for a delightful dining experience that combines great taste, variety, and a warm atmosphere, you simply must visit Kumari Restaurant in Mount Vernon! As my personal favorite, I can't help but rave about their lunch buffet. It's a splendid array of fresh, daily-prepared dishes that cater to every palate. Whether you're in the mood for a light soup and salad or something more indulgent, their menu is brimming with options. And let's talk about affordability. The prices are so reasonable, you'll be planning your next visit before you even leave! But what truly sets Kumari apart is the service. It's not just respectful; it's genuinely loving. Every visit feels like being welcomed into a family. So, if you're in the area and looking to treat your taste buds, come on over to Kumari Restaurant. It's more than just a meal; it's an experience that you'll cherish. See you there!
Fantastic buffet with so many flavorful (including vegetarian) options, attentive service without being hovering (though it took quite a while to get our server's when we were ready to pay and leave--it was also a quieter Sunday afternoon). Loved the ambience and will definitely be back.
